Hangover, Helsinki
While we were on our way to the market in Helsinki, in Finland, I sotted these two characters sitting on fish boxes and wondeered if they were down and outs looking for a handout. My Finnish companion said no, they were far too well dressed. He said they were sailors from the fishing boats who had been signed off the previous evening and spent all their money on alcohol. Now they were trying to get over a hangover before looking for another boat to sign on. I took the picture withy my Zorki C loaded with FP4 which had only recently appeared. I thought it was quite an improvement on FP3 with better gradation between good blacks and good whites. It was rated at ASA 125, but I had a tip from an Ilford rep that this was a 'safety margin' rating, and the film gave best results rated at ASA 200, which I did using a Leningrad 4 hand held meter and taking a reading from the asphalt dockside as being a fairly neutral grey.
